Presentation: Airport as Growth Stimulator
Airport is mostly considered as an infrastructure activity involving high cost. However, it will also give rise to the development of the smaller towns apart from increase in direct & indirect employment generation and overall increase in the support infrastructure in the region. The maintenance cost of the airport project is relatively less as compared to equivalent potential projects like SEZ as the component subjected to wear and tear in airport are limited in number. Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) Ltd. has been assigned the task of development of airport infrastructure mostly in tier-II & Tier III cities in Maharashtra state of India. Recently MADC has completed development of Shirdi Airport. Shirdi is a small town mostly a famous religious place, but the development of airport has created a visible impact on the economics of the region surrounding Shirdi town, the same is explained in presentation.
