Kuwait Airport Soars: 2023 Sees Over 15.6 Million Passengers, Marking a 26% Increase

Kuwait International Airport (KWI) witnessed a significant upsurge in passenger activity in 2023, with a noteworthy 26% growth, culminating in 15,616,800 passenger movements. Additionally, the airport experienced a substantial increase in air traffic, which increased by 23% to 128,584 movements. Air cargo traffic, which included both incoming and outgoing cargo volumes, increased by a more moderate 3%, reaching a total of 210 million kilogrammes.
Furthermore, in September 2023, the Kuwaiti government granted Limak, a Turkish construction company, a contract worth $764.87 million to lead the development of Terminal 2 (T2) at KWI. With an estimated annual expenditure of $4.34 billion, T2 intends to increase the capacity of the airport to accommodate 25–50 million passengers. Jazeera Terminal 5 at KWI, the preeminent low-cost carrier in Kuwait, underwent a significant upgrade to improve operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction, reflecting a substantial investment.
